Did You Know that a study in 2016 showed only 1.8% of elementary and high school teachers in Canada were Black.

Research also revealed that Black youth often lack educator advocates and lesson plans that are relevant to their lives, histories, and communities, which can lead to disengagement from school. Black high school students are the most likely to be streamed into special education and applied programs, and are the least likely to enroll in college and university when compared to White and other racialized students.

Our Inclusive workshops bridge the gap of representation in classrooms by bringing visibility to Black professionals, showcasing multiple pathways to success, breaking the bias of poverty, dispelling Anti-Black racism myths and connecting Black students to mentors.

" To provide culturally responsive programs, catered to underserved youth."

YOUTH ENGAGED

  • I wanted to send you a note in appreciation for the tremendous opportunity you provided for my Grade 4 class. Having you as our guest and speaker Stephanie Henry was an incredible experience that I know will have a lasting impact. The real-life educational experience this exchange afforded can’t be stressed enough and goes well beyond anything I could have meaningfully imparted by myself in the classroom. I hope your program reaches many other children to help bring about true change in a world which often speaks of doing something, but is unwilling to invest in what is needed to bring that about.

  • It was very interesting and refreshing to hear about their experiences and insights about many subjects that I personally run into every day and that are reoccurring in people’s daily lives. I was excited to hear about how they are so self motivated and I can relate to their life experiences. I can’t wait until our next workshop and thank you for taking the time to help encourage us students at a very crucial point in our lives.

  • My favourite part of the interview was when we got to ask questions. I think the lesson was that kids are important and can change the world.

  • We are so grateful to have partnered with Kym this year. She provided the students with motivation and inspiration through weekly M.U.M workshops and introduced the students to incredible mentors. Her passion and commitment to student success was so supportive during these uncertain times. The messages of growth, perseverance and empowerment enriched our program and engaged students in our program across the city. The experience was a model of inclusive excellence that not only enhanced the student’s academic performance but supported their psycho-social and emotional needs.
